The Louisville Young Republicans to Adopt Candidates

During the last Louisville Young Republicans meeting, LYR Chair and KYR Vice-Chair James Young announced that the Kentucky Young Republicans will be adopting 11 candidates to focus its attentions to elect or re-elect to the Kentucky State House and regain control of the House for the first time in over 100 years. The announcement was followed with a post at the Louisville Young Republicans' website.

The two local candidates who will obtain attention are Mike Nemes, the incumbent for District 38, and Cory Koellner, a challenger for District 28. There are three activities planned to assist these candidates for re-election. Each are door-to-door canvassing on Oct 6th, 13th, and the 27th.

In coordination with the Kentucky House Republican Caucus & Republican Party of Kentucky, the Louisville Young Republicans has joined the fight to win the State House of Representatives this November. As you may know, the Kentucky House of Representatives has seen a Democrat majority for more than lifetime; no that wasn’t a joke. Based on President Barack Obama’s embarrassing numbers in Kentucky, the trend of voter registration, and much more, that Republican’s have a legitimate opportunity to win the Kentucky House.
As revealed during our September 26th meeting, the Louisville Young Republicans have been tasked with “adopting” candidates in competitive districts across Kentucky. Fortunately, we have multiple seats that are “up for grabs” in the Metro. That’s why we are proud to announce our partnership w/ State Representative Mike Nemes & House candidate Corey Koellner.
  • State Representative Mike Nemes was elected in November of 2010. With no support from Frankfort, little encouragement from local Conservatives, Mike shocked analysts across the Commonwealth with his upsetting victory. Rep. Mike Nemes was a guest speaker for the Louisville Young Republican meeting in April 2012.
  • Corey Koellner is the Republican challenger for State Representative, District 28. Corey is an active member of the Louisville Young Republicans. He last ran represented the GOP as a candidate for Jefferson County PVA. He has also previously served as Treasurer of the Jefferson County Republican Party. Corey is currently an accountant for Louisville Gas & Electric.
Upcoming activities w/ these candidates include:
  • Walking Door-to-Door w/ Rep. Mike Nemes / Saturday, October 6th
  • Southwest Festival w/ Corey Koellner / Saturday, October 13th
  • Walking Door-to-Door w/ Corey Koellner / Saturday, October 27th
